andre bardet

ANDRE BARDET was born on January 19, 1906, in Clermont Ferrand, France. Self taught, Bardet started to paint when he was 17. In his home town of Coudes in Auvergne, he had the good fortune of meeting Victor Charreton who strengthened his passion and served as his mentor. Although law was Bardet's profession, he painted all his life. As soon as he could, Bardet gave up his job to devote full time to his art. Bardet’s paintings depict the various cities of Normandy, Provence, Auvergne, and near Paris. In 1987 he won the Silver Medal of “Academie Europeanne des Arts de France.

“When the light draws my eye and the subject grabs hold of me, that’s when I have to paint immediately”, the words of Bardet. The reflections, torments and brilliance of water, the opalescent gray ocean, the harsh blues of the Mediterranean, muted Parisian morning mists…Kersaint in Bretagne at low tide, clouds in Fecamp, and the Buron castle dominating the plains of the Allier River. Then, in another moment, Bardet brings to life the streets that are animated with lively people at markets and cafes. These are some of the themes of his colorful dreams.
